Today’s quote comes to us from MSNBC star (she’s the one making the biggest bucks over there) Rachel Maddow.
On Wednesday, Maddow informed her fans that Elon Musk was profiting handsomely – and hypocritically – from his appointment as head of the Department Of Government Efficiency (DOGE), to the tune of $400 million dollars in Tesla sales.
Her exact words (and, if you want to hear rather than read them, here’s the video):
“Elon Musk has apparently somehow convinced the United States Government, specifically the United States Department Of State, that the taxpayers of the United States Of America should spend $400 million dollars buying, quote, ‘armored Tesla production units’. Isn’t it great, and definitely not at all illegal, or profoundly corrupt, definitely not ripping us all off to pay themselves, right?”
That’s quite an indictment, right? Can you believe that grasping bastard Musk for trying to get rich off of his association with Donald Trump? Put him in jail and throw away the key!!!!
Except….
-In actuality, the call for these vehicles was made by the Biden administration in April of last year;
-Tesla was the one and only company offering to provide the vehicles;
-The procurement for this $400 million dollar purchase occurred in December of last year, when Joe Biden – that’s right: still Joe Biden, not Donald Trump – was President;
-And, in any case, it never even happened. From an article on this alleged purchase at snopes.com (which, to say the least, is not a fan of the Trump administration:
Speaking via email, a State Department official denied the agency had awarded a contract “to Tesla or any other vehicle manufacturer to produce armored electric vehicles,” nor does Trump’s administration plan on awarding such a contract. Musk said on X that he was “pretty sure” Tesla did not have a $400 million contract with the government, and if the company did, “no one mentioned it” to him. Tesla did not respond to a request for Tas of this writing.
And this, of course, is before we get to the fact that Elon Musk is the single richest man on planet earth, his fortune is estimated at almost $400 billion (not million, but billion) dollars, and he wouldn’t notice if $400 million dollars was missing from his petty cash drawer.
Given the above, I award Rachel Maddow Quote Of The Day “honors” for – as she does with some degree of regularity – letting her hatred of anything to the right of “the squad” get in the way of finding and reporting facts, thus leaving her to make an abject fool of herself. Again. And again, and again and….etc.
How proud MSNBC must be to feature her as the star of its network!!
