THE TARIFF FALLOUT BEGINS…AND THE NEWS IS NOT GOOD FOR CANADA

From Kate Helmore and Sean Silcoff’s article at Canada’s The Globe And Mail (behind a pay wall, so this is all I can show you):

Flourish Pancakes and Mid-Day Squares are rare examples of successful Canadian startups manufacturing and delivering food products consumers can readily prepare and eat. But with U.S. sales either the largest or fastest-growing part of their businesses, neither believes they can withstand the 25-per-cent tariffs President Donald Trump has said are coming Feb. 1 without making changes to their operations.

Canada’s second-largest pancake mix brand and a pioneer of high-protein refrigerated snacks are looking to expand production across the border to serve the U.S. market from within that country, mirroring a KPMG survey that found almost half of Canadian businesses plan to move more investment and operations to the U.S.

Let’s think about this:  Canadian companies export to the United States, with about 340 million consumers.  US companies export to Canada, with about 40 million consumers.

It doesn’t take a math professor to figure out which country gets the better and worse deal during a tariff war.  Or which country will suffer more.

OF COURSE companies that can avoid the tariffs by increasing USA production (thus USA revenue, jobs etc.) are going to do do…which is why there is no way this situation will last very long.  Trudeau and Scheinblum many not be geniuses, but this is something they certainly can figure out.

And let’s remember again:  what are the USA demands?  That Canada get serious about protecting the USA/Canadian border.

And that goes every bit as much – even more – for Mexico:  130 million population, and much of it under the control of the gangs and drug cartels its government does so little to prevent from sending those drugs along with millions of illegals across our border.

The solution is simple.  Get serious about preventing illegal aliens from crossing your borders into the USA, get serious about preventing drugs from crossing your borders into the USA, and the tariffs go away.

This is what the USA is taking a stand on.  So what are Canada and Mexico taking a stand on?  Leaving the borders unprotected/nonexistent????

Some problems, and their solutions, just explain themselves, don’t they?
