THE PARAGRAPH OF THE DAY

Today’s paragraph comes to us from Marshall Cohen and Betsy Klein’s article at cnn.com, which talks about President Biden’s pardon of his son, Hunter.

Keeping in mind that, in “explaining” his pardon (if you can, even charitably, characterize his BS as an explanation) President Biden talked about Hunter being addicted to drugs (we’re supposed to believe his addiction is cured) and that he eventually paid his back taxes.  This is supposed to be the rational for his blanket pardon.

But he left out something.  And here it is, from Mr. Cohen and Ms. Klein (the bold print is mine):

The broadly crafted pardon explicitly grants clemency for the tax and gun offenses from his existing cases, plus any potential federal crimes that Hunter Biden may have committed “from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024.” This time frame, importantly, covers his entire tenure on the board of Ukrainian gas company Burisma and much of his other overseas work, including in China. He had faced scrutiny for his controversial foreign business dealings, and Trump has repeatedly said he should be prosecuted for his activities in Ukraine and elsewhere.

Uh…wait a minute.  This includes BURISMA???????  CHINA??????????

Isn’t that where Hunter Biden made millions and millions of dollars providing…..don’t expect me or anyone to finish that sentence because know one has any idea what he provided other than access to his father.

Isn’t Burisma the Ukrainian energy company that was paying Hunter Biden something like a million dollars a year for doing nothing other than being Joe Biden’s kid?  The company being investigated by a prosecutor who might have put an end to this fraud, except then-Vice President Joe Biden got him fired – by threatening to withhold $1,000,000,000 in aid unless he was fired, and then bragged about doing so?  In case you forgot about that, here’s the video.

See, this pardon was not just about what Biden referenced.  It was about a lot more – including activities in the Ukraine and China that, it seems evident – financially benefited not just Hunter but Papa Joe and others in the Biden clan.  Want evidence?  Read  Mary Kay Linge and Jon Levine’s August 12, 2023 article for the New York Post.  Here’s how it starts:

President Joe Biden’s role as “the brand” for son Hunter’s lucrative international influence-peddling may have benefited him directly, according to mounting evidence from the first son’s abandoned laptop.

Newly revealed bank records released by the House Oversight Committee show that the president’s family and allies hauled in a staggering $20 million from foreign sources in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and China, some of whom met personally with Biden while he served as vice president.

Marshall Cohen and Betsy Klein win Paragraph Of The Day honors for having the guts to broach the fact that this “pardon” may well be for a lot more than Hunter Biden;  it may be for the rest of his family as well, very much including Papa Joe (who, therefore, may have, in reality, pardoned himself).
