I have good news and bad news for Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.
First the good news: his approval rating is up.
I’ll bet a lot of people think that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who has gotten pretty much nothing right since taking office in May of last year, must be dropping in popularity. I mean, with crime rampant, public education in disastrous condition, illegals overrunning what used to be recreational areas, etc., they certainly have reasons to believe such a thing.
But the latest polling shows otherwise.
According to the latest data from governing.com, Mayor Johnson’s approval rating is up 1% and his disapproval rating is down 9% since October 29th’s poll by Change research.
That’s the good news. Now, here’s the bad news.
Based on the above data, his approval rating has risen from 14% to 15%. And his disapproval rating has dropped from 79% to 70%.
That’s right. Mayor Johnson’s “rise” in approval rating puts him in the “improved” position of 15% approval and 70% disapproval.
My congratulations to the voters of Chicago, who elected this beyond-belief loser (I’ve never, ever seen numbers as bad for any politician). I hope they are just overjoyed with their decision.
Oh, one other thing: don’t bet on him not being re-elected next time around. This is Chicago, whose last Republican Mayor left office in 1931 (NOT a typo) and whose City Council consists of 50 members – 47 Democrats and three “Independents” (one of whom is a self-identified socialist). Given this voting record, you have to wonder if Chicago is capable of unseating even Brandon Johnson.
