“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”: Martin Luther King, August 28, 1963
Those words, spoken at The March On Washington, were very powerful. And very much revered, as they should be.
Too bad that, sometimes, people pervert What Rev. King said in the name of racism – exactly what he was speaking against…
…which brings us to Rep. ayanna pressley (D-MA).
From Gabriel Hays’ article at Fox News:
Progressive lawmaker and member of “The Squad,” Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., ripped House Republicans last week for promoting a new bill that would weaken diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the government.
During a House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday, Pressley ripped the proposed legislation in a speech, accusing its GOP proponents of denying the history of racism in the United States, as well as its current prevalence.
“And I’d also just like to take a personal note of privilege to say, please keep Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s name out of your mouths,” Pressley told the bill’s supporters, adding that they’ve made a “perversion of his words” in advancing their agenda.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is a system that, ostensibly in an effort to right the wrongs of racism, insures certain percentages of minority people are selected – for work, to attend colleges, etc. – based not on the content of their character, but the color of their skin. Like the racism before it, DEI seeks to reward people based not on their abilities or their merit, but their skin color.
In other words, it seeks to solve racism by creating more racism.
If anyone should keep Martin Luther King Jr’s name out of their mouths it should be the ayanna pressleys of the world.
