IN CASE YOU’RE WONDERING HOW RUSSIA’S WAR ON THE UKRAINE IS GOING…

…the answer is that it is a disaster for both sides.

Russia is “winning” in the sense that it has more territory today than in February of 2014, when it invaded what was left of The Ukraine (Russia had already taken and annexed Crimea in 2014).

But the reality is that both sides are losing horrifically.

The Ukraine, apart from loss of land, has seen large parts of its infrastructure decimated by Russia and mass dislocation of its population (a problem that doesn’t seem to generate the United Nation’s attention, even as it regularly condemns Israel for the same situation… but due to successfully fighting a war it did not start, the other side did).

And then there is Russia – which thought it would make quick work of The Ukraine in 2022is; but now, almost three years later, mired in a massively debilitating war of its own making.

But how are things going there now?  Read this excerpt from Brian Burns’ well referenced article at the Tampa Free Press and see for yourself:

Russian Forces Suffer Heavy Losses With 80,000 Casualties, Nearly 200 Tanks Destroyed In Latest Offensive

Russian forces have sustained significant losses during intensified offensive operations in September and October 2024, with reports indicating the destruction of nearly 200 tanks, over 650 armored vehicles, and an estimated 80,000 casualties.

UK Defense Secretary John Healey told The Telegraph on Saturday that UK defense intelligence data shows Russian casualty rates hit a new peak in October, averaging 1,345 troops per day—resulting in about 41,980 casualties for the month.

This follows a similarly high casualty rate in September, where the UK Ministry of Defense, citing figures from the Ukrainian General Staff, reported an average of 1,271 Russian troops lost per day, totaling approximately 38,130 casualties.

Combined, these figures suggest that Russian forces suffered around 80,110 casualties over the past two months—exceeding U.S. military losses during nearly 20 years of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In exchange for these heavy losses, Russian troops managed to seize and retake a total of 1,517 square kilometers across Ukraine and Kursk Oblast—a territory less than a third the size of Delaware.

That’s some “win”.   A classic “Pyrrhic victory” if ever there was one.

And still the war continues, with no end in sight.

So:  now that you know how Russia’s war on The Ukraine is going. which side would you want to be on?

Personally, my preference would be the other side.  The other side of the world.
