Even as HillaryClinton tries to put questions about her private email server behind her, theFBI has stepped up inquiries into the security of the former Secretary ofState\’s home-made email system, and how aides communicated over email, POLITICOhas learned.
The FBI\’s recent movessuggest that its inquiry could have evolved from the preliminary fact-findingstage that the agency launches when it receives a credible referral, accordingto former FBI and DOJ officials inteviewed by POLITICO.
“This sounds to melike it\’s more than a preliminary inquiry; it sounds like a full-blowninvestigation,” said Tom Fuentes, former assistant director of the FBI. “Whenyou have this amount of resources going into it …. I think it\’s at theinvestigative level.”
The FBI declined torespond to questions about the scope of its ongoing work.
As most media obsess on whether Ben Carson was correct in saying that, decades ago, he was offered a full scholarship to West Point (he apparently was), and whether Marco Rubio properly paid back the personal charges on his political charge card (he apparently did), how are they going to deal with the fact that Ms. Clinton, who is already a demonstrated liar regarding her emails, may be subjected to a real investigation by real investigators – a criminal investigation which conceivably will result in her being indicted?
Will they try to dismiss it as just politics? Don\’t bet against that.
And will there be unconditional supporters of Ms. Cilnton who buy into the premise that the FBI has somehow been compromised by those evil Republicans, and is just out to get poor, pristine Hillary? Don\’t bet against that either.
Just do yourself a favor and don\’t be one of them.
