What do you get when the government spends $1 billion of your tax dollarsto replace an antiquated paper-based immigration system with a more accurateand reliable electronic one?
Nothing, apparently.
According to the Washington Post, theDepartment of Homeland Security had planned to have a digitized system in placein 2013, at a cost of $500 million. But here it is, the end of 2015, and afterpouring more than $1 billion, DHS now says it needs another four years and $2.1billion to get it finished.
At stake is more thanjust wasted taxpayer money. The existing immigration system is ancient anddeeply flawed, causing agonizing delays for those who should be granted legalstatus, while making it harder for DHS to screen out security threats.
And who is to blamefor this disaster? Much of the fault rests with the Obama administration, whichhas, after all, been in charge of the project for almost seven years.
To these wonderful, non-partisan folks, who are only interested in making sure the taxpayers\’ money is not wasted…
…where are you on this? Do you know how many $5 million dollar increments there are in $3.1 billion dollars?
Can\’t count that high? OK, I\’ll do it for you. To get to $3.1 billion dollars, take $5 million and multiply it 620 times over.
If one dose of $5 million dollars, for the purpose of learning what happened in Benghazi – so we can explain to the families of the dead and minimize the prospects for there to be more such attacks in the future – is enough to set you off the rails, how about 620 of them? And how about the fact that the ability of our immigration system to effectively check and make sure legals are allowed in and illegals are not has been completely compromised over all these years?
You must be beside yourselves with fury over this scandalous horror show, right?
But – funny thing – I have not seen even one statement by any Democrat member of the House Oversight Committee about this monumental, endless waste of money.
How come?
