Today’s quote comes to us from Minnesota Governor/Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz.
From Ian Hatchett’s article for breitbart.com, we see that, during an interview with reporter/show host Barbara Barr on WGAL-TV (Lancaster, Pennsylvania), Barr said this:
“[P]olls show that many Americans and Pennsylvanians think the economy was better over the Trump administration and they liked his tax cuts, they helped everyone.”
And here is how Walz answered:
“Well, the fact of the matter is is that he left with 10 million people out of work, 9 million jobs closed, and we were in the middle of the global pandemic. I don’t think people want to go back to tens of thousands of Americans dying, businesses shut. Donald Trump brags about that. The reason people weren’t using gas was that they couldn’t leave their house because he botched the COVID recovery, while he’s praising China, while he’s putting on tariffs. So, look, I think the focus is, Donald Trump wants to look to the past, we’re looking to the future. We’re looking for an opportunity economy, Donald Trump’s the one laughing about busting unions. Pennsylvanians know that if you can get into a good, union job and negotiate collectively, you can get into the middle class, not just to get by, but to thrive. And that’s the case we’re making.”
That so, Tim? Let’s think about this:
-First off, what did Trump have to do with the COVID pandemic, besides nothing? Even Walz doesn’t claim this was his fault.
-Then there is the “botched” recovery claim. Really? In less than a year Trump oversaw the creation, testing and administration of COVID vaccines – an unheard of speed for this to happen. And after the country summarily shut down in March/April of 2020, with a sudden loss of 23,000,000 jobs, under Trump’s stewardship 13 – 14,000,000 of them had come back by the time he left office….(with Joe Biden subsequently claiming he “created” the remaining 10,000,000 or so million that came back – a blatant lie).
-As for the insinuation that gas prices were only low because the pandemic caused people not to leave their houses, thus use their cars? Take a look at this chart of average yearly gas prices…

…and see that Trump’s four year administration provided the lowest gas prices since the turn of the century, with an average of $2.57 a gallon, and his highest year at an average of $2.81. By contrast, Biden’s three full years show an average of $3.54 a gallon, with a one-year high of $4.06.
-Then there is Walz’s unsubstantiated claim about Trump “union-busting” – which is belied by the fact that, this year, major unions – the largest being The Teamsters – which usually endorse the Democrat candidate as a matter of course, are either not endorsing either candidate or endorsing Trump/Vance. Would they really be doing this on behalf of a union-buster?
I could go on, but I think the point is made.
I therefore award Tim Walz Quote Of The Day (dis)honors for lying to us over and over again…which, based on this and numerous other instances, clearly is something he has no problem at all doing.
