How big a flopperoo is “Truth” – the attempt to make heroes, instead of liars, of Dan Rather and Mary Mapes?
Well, here are the latest data from boxofficemojo.com:

Wide Opening Weekend: $875,935 (#16 rank, 1,122 theaters, $781 average) % of Total Gross: 55.7% > View All 3 Weekends

Three weeks out – including one week in wide release (over 1,100 theaters) – and a grand total of $1.573,955 gross?????
That is disaster on steroids.
Unaccountably, the public is not champing at the bit to see a movie pretend that the Dan Rather/Mary Mapes attempt to upend President Bush\’s re-election campaign, using fake documents, was some kind of noble effort.
Personally, I would like to think the mere fact that Bush\’s win meant our unaccomplished, inept, incompetent, current Secretary Of State, John Kerry, never got into the White House, is enough to make people very happy with what happened to Rather and Mapes…thus very uninterested in seeing Hollywood try to change history.
On the other hand, there still is hope for this movie. My cable system has the “SciFi Channel” for science fiction. Maybe one day it will offer a “PolFi” channel for political fiction. “Truth” would fit like a glove.
