THE REPUBLICAN PARTY\’S MARK TWAIN DEATH

Ken Berwitz

“The report of my death was an exaggeration”:  Mark Twain

How many times have you heard that the Republican Party is dying?  That it is the party of old, White men and it is rapidly swirling down the drain…that big one in the sitting area of your bathroom?

Well, before you accept that as settled fact, I suggest you take a look at this excerpt – with dramatic graphics – which I pulled from Chris Cillizza\’s informative blog on the Washington Post web site:

With Matt Bevin\’s win inKentucky on Tuesday night, Republicans now hold 32 of thenation\’s governorships — 64 percent of all the governors mansions in thecountry. (One race, in Louisiana, won\’t be decided until next month. Democratsbelieve they have a good chance of winning that race against now-Sen. DavidVitter.)
Democrats\’ failureto take over the Virginia state Senate means that Republicansstill hold total control of 30 of the country\’s 50 state legislatures (60percent) and have total or split control of 38 of the 50 (76 percent.)

Does that look like a dead party to you?  Or would you say that, like Mark Twain, reports of its death are exaggerated?

Me too.
