A FEW QUICK QUESTIONS ABOUT PARTY AND RACE

Ken Berwitz

A few quick questions for the people taking pot shots at Republican presidential candidates – especially from the standpoint of race, age and sex:
If the Republican Party is the party of racism, how come Ben Carson, a Black man, is either leading or a close second in just about every major presidential poll?  Do you think Republicans didn\’t notice he was Black?
And if your answer is “Yeah, he\’s leading, but only because he is a conservative – otherwise he would be nowhere”….
….I will thank you for making the same point I am.  Yes, Ben Carson would be less successful among Republicans if his politics were more liberal/left.  Which means that his IDEAS are what is driving those poll numbers, not his skin color.
And if you assure me that there are plenty of racists in the Republican Party?  I will agree with you.  Of course there are.  Just as there are plenty of racists in the Democrat Party – a fact which, I find, many Democrats pretend does not exist.
And if you argue that the Republicans are the party of old, White men?  I will point out a) that almost every Republican candidate is younger than either Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, b) several (Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, to name two) are literally young enough to be their children and c) the last time I checked, Carly Fiorina was a woman too, just like Hillary.
Any other questions you\’d like to deal with?
