The latest CBS News/New York Times poll of Republican candidates has Ben Carson ahead of Donald Trump by 26% – 22%, with everyone else way behind.
Several new polls also show Carson ahead of Trump in Iowa, the first state with a primary – the latest by double digits (32% – 18%).
When Republicans debate on CNBC tomorrow, therefore, the latest data Trump will be doing so from second place.
This is not going to please The Donald.
But, to serious political people, let me again say, as I have for quite a while now: don\’t worry about which of these two is getting the Republican nomination. Neither is. Polls taken months before the first primary are meaningless.
It will, however, make for great theater between Trump and Carson….actually I should now say between Carson and Trump.
I\’ll be watching. I love fireworks.
