As Democrats continue their years-long attack on the Koch brothers for how much they spend to elect Republicans, I thought you might want to see this excerpt from Jonathan Swan\’s piece at thehill.com:
Billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer plans to invest at least as aggressively in the 2016 presidential election as he did last year, when he became the biggest individual donor on either side of American politics.
“I would be shocked if we didn\’t,” he said.
Asked if he had a dollar figure in mind for how much he was prepared to spend in the presidential year, Steyer said, “I really don\’t. … We\’re going to see what we can do…”
Please take special note of the fact that, in 2014, Steyer was the single biggest individual political donor in American politics.
Democrats have told us repeatedly that the Koch brothers, Charles and David, are buying elections around the country – but neglect, of course, to tell us about uber-rich Democrat benefactors like Steyer, and George Soros, and Haym Saban, Herb Sandler, not to mention a large array of Hollywood biggies and many more.
The truth is that neither party has any monopoly on very rich people paying the freight for their candidates. And it is absurd for either party to attack the other on those grounds.
That\’s something worth remembering, when you hear the next installment – #47,326, I think – of “The Koch brothers are buying the elections”.
