Yesterday, Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform to issue a challenge to Joe Biden.
Here it is:
Interesting challenge…and great politics.
There is no practical way for a debate of this kind to occur. But it forces Joe Biden to say yes no or no…and the answer, of course, is going to be no.
This inherently reinforces the “Biden is gone” factor in people’s minds – a factor that, now, even the formerly protect-him-at-all-costs media are talking about every day.
It is hard to see how this challenge does anything but hurt Biden. It either keeps him as the candidate, but one who cannot engage/defend his record against the guy he’s running against, or pushes him further toward the exit door…
…to be replaced by who? Kamala Harris (a disaster)? Someone other than Harris (which will almost certainly cause a racial hemorrhage in the party)?
And all this just weeks before the Democrat convention in Chicago…which already has the makings of a 1968-style convention horror show.
My congratulations to Donald Trump for, uncharacteristically, making a really good political move.
