Donald Trump, with his characteristic sarcasm (which, I suspect loses him more votes than it gains him) has stated that both he and Joe Biden should take drug tests before Thursday’s debate.
If Trump is not on booster drugs – i.e. drugs that would affect his performance during the debate – I suggest he immediately take exactly that drug test…and make the results public ASAP…
…and then point out that Joe Biden has not done so, again demanding that he takes the same test.
This costs Trump nothing. But it immediately puts Biden’s cognition during the debate under a microscope; one controlled by Trump himself.
Why? Because whenever Biden talks loudly, quickly, or gesticulates, Trump can question whether drugs have kicked in; i.e. whether his demeanor has been artificially affected to make him seem more alive/animated than he would otherwise be.
And Biden has no answer other than to say, “no, I didn’t take any drugs” – which would mean either that he is lying about the drugs (in the absence of any pre-debate test there is no way to prove he isn’t) or that Biden is some kind of loose cannon whose state of mind can mercurially jump up or down at any given time.
The beauty of this for Trump is that, either way, it points to Biden as cognitive mess.
This is a great opportunity for Donald Trump. I wonder if he is/his people are smart enough to realize as much, and exploit it.
