THE WALL SQUALL

Ken Berwitz

Israel is building another wall.  This time it is to separate an Arab area of east Jerusalem from a Jewish area.

Why would Israel do such a thing?  Isn\’t that a provocation?  Doesn\’t that legitimize Palestinian grievances?

Well, let\’s look at these excerpts from an article at Agence France Presse and see if we can find some answers:

Israeli police on Sunday began erecting a wall in east Jerusalem to protect aJewish neighbourhood subject to firebomb and stone attacks launched from anadjacent Palestinian village.

The wall wouldeffectively divide Palestinian Jabel Mukaber and Jewish Armon Hanatziv, raisingcriticism among the government\’s opposition, which considered the move a defacto division of Jerusalem.

Jabel Mukaber has beena hotspot in the recent wave of violence in which 42 Palestinians and sevenIsraelis have been killed, raising fears of a full-blown Palestinian uprisinggrew.

Three residents of thevillage had killed three Israelis in two separate attacks in Jerusalem onTuesday before being killed by security forces.

On Saturday, a16-year-old Palestinian was shot dead by police after attempting to stab borderpolice at a checkpoint near Jabel Mukaber.

Oh.

It\’s not that Israel just decided some Thursday to erect a wall.  It is a reaction to continued attacks on Jews by the Palestinian Arabs who will now be on the other side of that wall.

“But wait”, a Palestinian Arab sympathizer might say. “That is not fair.  This is collective guilt.  You can\’t blame every Palestinian Arab for what a few have done.”

To which a knowledgeable person might reply, “That would be a relatively meritorious argument, except the head of the Palestinian Authority, abu abbas, stated just last September 16th, as the attacks on Jews started, that…

“We bless every drop of blood that has been spilled for Jerusalem, which is clean and pure blood, blood spilled for Allah, Allah willing. Every Martyr (Shahid) will reach Paradise, and everyone wounded will be rewarded by Allah.”

…so this is not collective guilt, this is a direct response to a call for the Palestinian Arab people to stab and kill, because their God, Allah, will reward them for it.  THAT is where the collective guilt lies”.

This is the point where the Palestinian Arab sympathizer either tells you why abbas is right – which therefore fully justifies Israel trying to protect itself in any manner it sees fit – or changes the subject.
