THE QUOTE OF THE DAY

Today’s quote – and it is a lengthy one – comes to us from former Harvard law professor and current scourge of the left (because he doesn’t reflexively fall in line with its leaders/rulers), Alan Dershowitz.

Mr. Dershowitz was on the “Hannity” show last night, during which he was asked his opinion of the Trump “hush money trial”  (if you can even charitably call this farce a trial) that will put presidential candidate Donald Trump out of commission for something like two months – and which, given the compromised (Democrat donor) judge, his left wing activist pro-Biden daughter and the jury pool from a venue that voted 85% against Trump in the previous election, will almost certainly result in a guilty conviction…

…and which will, also almost certainly, be overturned on appeal due to its farcical nature.

This is what Dershowitz had to say:

“Well, look I’m looking for a fair election. I’m an American voter who hasn’t decided at this point who to vote for and who to vote against. I just want a fair election. This case is depriving the American public – I’m speaking for the American public not for either candidate – of the right to have a fair election.

“President Trump should be in Pennsylvania today. There is a statute that gives him the right to leave the court any day, but the statute says, ‘in the absence of an objection by the people.’ In other words, the prosecution has a veto over the judge’s decision whether to allow him to leave the courtroom on any given day. That is unconstitutional and this case ought to be challenged.

“There ought to be a motion made by his lawyers immediately under section 340.50, in which the judge has the power to allow him to leave the courtroom and campaign, but only if the prosecution agrees to it – which is clearly unconstitutional. The gag order is unconstitutional. You cannot prevent a defendant from attacking the witnesses, from attacking the judge’s daughter – if the judge’s daughter could be a basis for disqualification.

“Look, I agree with Greg (legal correspondent Greg Jarrett)  – the American public is sick and tired of seeing the legal system weaponized. Whether you’re a Democrat or Republican, whether you’re a Trump supporter or a Biden supporter,  you should be equally appalled. We have the right to decide who to vote for without the thumb, or in this case, the elbow of the criminal justice system led by Democrats – in this case the district attorney who campaigned on a promise to get Trump essentially. We have a right to not have that election interference. This case is paradigmatic election interference.

Then, in answer to Hannity’s question, “Do you believe should’ve recused himself?” Dershowitz said:

“Absolutely, it’s not even a close question.  [His daughter] can make money, she’s probably making money merely from the fact that he is sitting on the case. And if Trump loses, as a result of the judge’s ruling, she puts money in the bank. That’s a conflict of interest,”

This is a trial about a perfectly legal non-disclosure agreement – therefore absolutely nothing – but, at worst, a one-count misdemeanor, that has been invented/contorted into 34 felonies (that is NOT a typo) by a hard-left District Attorney on record as dedicated to going after Trump, presided over by a Democrat judge who donates to members of his party (possibly to Biden in particular) and who has a left wing Biden-supporting/Trump-hating daughter reaping tens of millions of dollars in donations off this trial, but won’t recuse himself from it.

Compared to Trump, Tom Robinson – the Black man railroaded on a rape charge in To Kill A Mockingbird – had at least as fair a trial – and probably a better shot at acquittal – than Trump does.

I award Alan Dershowitz Quote Of The Day honors for laying these facts out so clearly.
