Today’s quote – and it is a singularly dishonest one – comes to us from President Joe Biden.
Wednesday, addressing the rising inflation rate (now back up to 3.5%), Biden actually said this:
“Look, we have dramatically reduced inflation from 9% down to close to 3%. We’re in a situation where we’re better situated than we were when we took office where we — inflation was skyrocketing,”
It would be hard to overstate how detached from reality this quote is.
Let’s start with the fact that the 9% inflation rate Biden claims to have rescued us from occurred when HE was president. And not in the first couple of months, when he could claim it was the residue of Donald Trump’s presidency, but in June of 2022 – a full year and a half after he took office. So the President whose inflation he “rescued” us from is…HIM.
And then there is Biden’s astonishingly dishonest claim that inflation was skyrocketing when he took office.
Here, from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, are the monthly inflation rates for the entire last year of Trump’s presidency (2020): 2.5%, 2.3%, 1.5%, 0.3%, 0.1%, 0.6%, 1.0%, 1.3%, 1.4%, 1.2%, 1.2,% 1.4% (yearly average of 1.2%)…
…and the monthly inflation rates for the entire first year of Biden’s presidency (2021)2/21 – 1/22): 1.4% 1.7%, 2.6%, 4.2%, 5.0%, 5.4%, 5.4%, 5.3%, 5.4%, 6.2%, 6.8%, 7.0% (yearly average of 4.7%).
Oh, and FYI: the next year, 2022, inflation under Biden averaged 8.0%.
Does that look like Biden rescued our economy from Trump’s skyrocketing inflation….or that inflation skyrocketed once Biden took office? If your IQ is at least in double digits, I assume you understand it is the latter, not the former.
I therefore award Joe Biden either…
