Cornell West is a hard-left, BLM supporting Black academic, who is running for President.
He just selected a hard-left, BLM-supporting Black academic, Milena Abdullah, as his Vice President running mate.
Most people will not consider voting for the West/Abdullah ticket. But a small number of primarily hard-left/race- uber-alles Black voters – I’m guesstimating 2% – 4% – will do so.
And who will this ticket take votes from?
Well, it is an excellent bet that not one of those voters would, in the absence of a West/Abdullah option, vote for Donald Trump.
But it is an equally excellent bet that in the absence of a West/Abdullah ticket, they would vote preponderantly for the Democrat – who, at least as of now, is Joe Biden.
Can Joe Biden afford to lose 2% – 4% of the Black vote…along with the additional loss of Black (and, even moreso, Latino) former Democrat voters who will vote for Trump – which just about every current poll indicates is a real probability?
I’d say the answer is no.
That said, let’s remember: it is only April, and no one knows what events will take place between now and November. Let’s also remember that polls are notoriously inaccurate.
But if things stay as they are? If West/Abdullah stay in to the end and the polls (just about all of which say the same thing) are anywhere near accurate? Democrats better hope that Joe Biden is replaced long before election day.
