Today’s quote comes to us from the Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul.
Now that Donald Trump has been found guilty of bank fraud – with no complainants, no charges of any fraud by anyone other than the judge, no damages, and every witness stating that what Trump did to generate the judge’s summary ruling and assessment of hundreds of millions of dollars in damages is nothing more than standard business practice…
…this is the assurance that Governor Hochul has given the no-doubt relieved community of bankers, borrowers and mortgage seekers:
“I think that this is really an extraordinary, unusual circumstance that the law-abiding and rule-following New Yorkers who are business people have nothing to worry about, because they’re very different than Donald Trump and his behavior.”
Fascinating comment. Made even more fascinating by the fact that its first component, “this is really an extraordinary, unusual circumstance”, is 100% correct. The New York Times and Associated Press have both reported that they can’t find a ruling like this in the history of the state. Not one.
The problem, however, is the rest of her statement.
If this ruling is allowed to stand, it means that if you are a New York business person, every time you engage in normal, typical interactions with New York Banks, you run the risk of New York Attorney General Letitia James, Judge “he’s guilty even if no one is charging him with anything” judge Arthur Engoron, and a Manhattan jury doing to you what they did to Trump.
And Hochul thinks you will buy her claim that business people “have nothing to worry about”?
Here’s the news, Governor: in recent years, businesses and productive residents (read that as its tax base) have been fleeing New York in droves. Does anyone in her/his right mind believe the Trump ruling will do anything but accelerate this trend?
I award Governor Kathy Hochul Quote Of The Day “honors” for managing to keep a straight face while making this astoundingly absurd claim to the New York business community…
…and I remind the people of New York that you get what you vote for…and you voted for Hochul. Enjoy the ride.
