IS THIS THE REAL REASON BEHIND FANI WILLIS’ LEGAL ATTACK ON TRUMP?

Fani Willis is the District Attorney of Fulton County (Atlanta) Georgia.  She is pursuing Donald Trump for illegal interference in the 2020 presidential election and a host of other charges (including, so help me, “conspiring to impersonate a public officer”).

Needless to say, this is a high profile case, and one that will keep Ms. Willis’ name in the news for months and months.  That will be great for her career – if (and, as you will see below, this is a BIG “if”) she comes out looking good once it is over and done.

And, not incidentally, it is also a case that requires significant time and effort (thus compensation) for the special prosecutor named to handle things.

Which brings us to the following, via excerpts from Bill Rankin and Tamar Hallerman’s article for the (hardline Democrat-leaning) Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

District Attorney Fani Willis improperly hired an alleged romantic partner to prosecute Donald Trump and financially benefited from their relationship, according to a court motion filed Monday which argued the criminal charges in the case were unconstitutional.

The bombshell public filing alleged that special prosecutor Nathan Wade, a private attorney, paid for lavish vacations he took with Willis using the Fulton County funds his law firm received. County records show that Wade, who has played a prominent role in the election interference case, has been paid nearly $654,000 in legal fees since January 2022. The DA authorizes his compensation.

The motion, filed on behalf of defendant Michael Roman, a former Trump campaign official, seeks to have the charges against Roman dismissed and for Willis, Wade and the entire DA’s office to be disqualified from further prosecution of the case.

Pallavi Bailey, a Willis spokeswoman, said the DA’s office will respond to Roman’s allegations “through appropriate court filings.” Wade did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The document offers no concrete proof of the romantic ties between Willis and Wade, but says “sources close to both the special prosecutor and the district attorney have confirmed they had an ongoing, personal relationship.”

Hmmmm.  And double hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Is this what these ridiculous charges are all about?  Is this, in the final analysis, a scam whereby DA Willis not only gets a ton of ongoing publicity for going after Donald Trump, but also gets her lover (who was married during the jaunts in question, by the way) a ton of money he then uses to lavish on her?

If it were only the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporting about this, given the paper’s Democrat lean I’d probably consider it prima facie evidence that there’s more than just smoke here.  But plenty of other media, also no fans of Donald Trump, are reporting about it as well.

Here’s one other example:  from ,  and

One of former President Donald Trump’s co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case alleged in a court filing Monday that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade had engaged in a “romantic relationship.”

In a 39-page filing seeking a dismissal of charges, an attorney for Trump co-defendant Michael Roman made accusations that Willis and Wade have traveled together to destinations including Napa Valley and that they’ve been seen together around Atlanta in a personal capacity.

“The district attorney chose to appoint her romantic partner, who at all times relevant to this prosecution has been a married man,” attorney Ashleigh Merchant wrote.

The filing, which refers to Wade’s ongoing divorce proceedings, asks that Willis, Wade and the DA’s office be disqualified from prosecuting the case “on the grounds that the district attorney and the special prosecutor have been engaged in an improper, clandestine personal relationship during the pendency of this case, which has resulted in the special prosecutor, and, in turn, the district attorney, profiting significantly from this prosecution at the expense of the taxpayers.”

A spokesperson for the DA’s office said a response to the allegations will be made in a court filing and declined further comment.

Notice that “declined further comment” line?  If these charges were untrue, or even just exaggerated, wouldn’t you expect a blanket denial?  But there isn’t one, is there?

Look, I don’t know how this is going to play out.  No one does for sure.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that Fani Willis is one DA who will wish she never started up with Trump and his people.

We’ll see……
