Ken Berwitz
I just watched about two minutes of NewsNation on MSNBC. And there was Dee Snider, lead singer of an 80\’s heavy metal group called “Twisted Sister”, whose biggest hit was “We\’re Not Gonna Take It”.
Mr. Snider, with slicked back hair, nothing like the fright-wig quality bleached blonde, tightly curled \’do (or wig) he used at that time, was waxing poetic about the censorship he claimed was used against that song, such as some stations requiring toned-down alternative versions or they wouldn\’t play it.
At the end of his commentary, Mr. Snider informed us of the following:
“I\’m very pro amendments. I support all the amendments. 1st, 2nd, all the way down to the 14th amendment, people. Every one of \’em.”
Note to Dee Snider: The 14th Amendment was enacted July 9th 1868. That was 147 years and 13 more amendments ago (the last one was enacted in 1992).
I\’m sort of assuming that, while he might not like all of the newer ones, the 15th amendment which prohibits denying the vote based on race or color, the 19th which gave women the vote, the 24th which eliminated poll taxes and the 26th which allowed people as young as 18 (a great many of whom bought his records in those days) to vote would have a certain appeal. Maybe even a few more than that.
Well, anyway I\’m guessing his heart was in the right place……
