When you have a dangerous animal cornered, what do you do? Do you close in with caution, or do you lash out and risk that the dangerous animal will do something out of desperation that it would not have otherwise done?
Here, from Brett Samuels’ article at thehill.com, is Joe Biden, speaking in Finland yesterday, about why The Ukraine cannot immediately become a member of NATO:
Biden noted no country can join NATO while in the middle of a war, because it would drag the entire alliance into conflict — a stance Biden and his administration have been stressing this week as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the alliance’s resistance to fast-tracking its membership.
“The issue of whether or not this is going to keep Putin from continuing to fight, the answer is Putin’s already lost the war,” Biden continued. “Putin has a real problem. How does he move from here? What does he do?”
“And so, the idea that there’s going to be what vehicle is used, he could end the war tomorrow. He could just say, ‘I’m out,’” Biden added. “But what agreement is ultimately reached depends on Putin and what he decides to do. But there is no possibility of him winning the war in Ukraine. He’s already lost that war.”
Yes it is true that vladimir putin has lost the war in The Ukraine.
And so has The Ukraine.
putin no doubt expected to take the country over in a matter of days, or a couple of weeks at most. But instead, it is now going on a year and a half. His troops and his military equipment are decimated. And The Ukraine is largely reduced to rubble. There are no winners here, only losers.
putin, personally, is less and less popular in Russia. And, worse still for him, he apparently is in terrible health; quite possibly cancer and quite possibly terminal. That is true if Biden says nothing.
So what is the point of Biden’s standing on a podium and blustering out a commentary that is guaranteed to antagonize a man who is, in every real sense of the word, cornered? A man who has little left to lose…but, let us remember, has access to a huge nuclear arsenal he has already threatened to use.
What does Biden – or, more exactly, his puppeteers, think is going to happen here? Are they certain that putin will just quietly take the barbs and insults, the damage to what is left of his ego and his legacy, with nothing but a whimper? Are they certain that, like the cornered dangerous animal he is, putin won’t lash out in some desperate, irrational, last-ditch action?
And what if he does? Who will the attack be aimed at?
Well, who is taunting him publicly? And what country is he president of?
This is nuts beyond belief. Somebody, for God sake, please shut Biden the hell up before we have a disaster of unprecedented dimension.
