OPERATION FAST & FURIOUS: THREE MORE VICTIMS

My congratulations to Kevin Johnson and USA Today, which posted his article about the Fast & Furious weapon which, it now turns out, was used to kill three Mexican police officers last summer…..and comes on the heels of finding out that one of the weapons Mexican drug dealer Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman had in his possession when captured was also from Fast & Furious.

A new accounting of guns that were allowed to be trafficked to Mexico as part of a botched U.S. firearms investigation shows that one of the weapons was used last year in a deadly shootout that left three Mexican police officers dead.

A Justice Department summary provided to two Republican congressional committee chairmen Tuesday found that a WASR-10 rifle, purchased six years before in the U.S., was one of three rifles fired in the July 27 assault in the town of Valle de Zaragoza. It was not immediately known which weapon caused the officers’ fatal wounds.

Nevertheless, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives officials traced the WASR rifle to a Nov. 12, 2009, transaction that was part of the flawed federal gun trafficking operation, known as “Operation Fast and Furious.”

Congratulations should not be necessary, here.  All of mainstream media should be buzzing with this news – and adding it to the already large number of crimes, violent and non-violent both, which have been traced to this badly designed, stupidly executed, and almost certainly politically motivated Obama fiasco, which sold something like 2,000 assault rifles to Mexican drug cartels.

This included the deaths of two US agents:  Border patrol agent Brian Terry and Immigration & Customes Enforcement (ICE) agent Jaime Zapata.  Read Ed Morrissey’s blog at hotair.com for a very good synopsis of this mess.

No, congratulations should not be necessary at all.  This is news.  Big news.  News the public has every reason and every right to know about.  Of course every major media venue should be reporting it.

But that is only common sense and logic…neither of which apply to how our wonderful “neutral” media have handled the Fast & Furious scandal.

The USA Today article was published March 15th – three days ago.  A google check shows that neither CBS nor NBC nor ABC has offered its viewers a word about it, nor – with the notable exception of Matt Zapotosky’s article for the Washington Post – have the NY Times or LA Times or almost any other major newspaper.

They are suppressing this information every bit as completely as they suppressed the Fast & Furious scandal when it was taking place.

Keep ’em ignorant and you own ’em.

I blog a lot about media bias and the lack of journalistic integrity.  This is a classic example of why.
