I watched the first ten or so minutes of Sean Hannity\’s show last night. And, if what I saw is any indication, the situation there is hopeless.
Protester after protester was interviewed. Not one of them accepted the fact that, after an exhaustive DOJ investigation (led by an Attorney General itching to find something – anything – to pin on him), Officer Darren Wilson was exonerated of any criminal action in the shooting of Michael Brown. Clearly, “justice for Michael” had only one meaning – the same one it had from day one: that Wilson must fry.
One young man was asked about the fact that, prior to the shooting, Brown had robbed a convenience store and physically abused the owner who tried to stop him. His answer was “how do you know that” said several times…as surveillance video of the robbery and physical confrontation was played – video that has been out there for 7 months and played countless other times in the past.
A woman, apparently in her 40\’s, was asked whether she thought Brown had his hands up and was saying “don\’t shoot” when shot – the “hands up” part having been conclusively debunked by forensic evidence from the autopsy. She said yes.
If this is reflective of the general tenor in Ferguson, then what we are seeing is a narrative that was created by the race hustlers – al sharpton primary among them – immediately after Michael Brown\’s shooting, which made him nothing but a victim and Darren Wilson nothing but a murderer. Those “facts” are now cast in stone. No subsequent information, no evidence, no forensics, no DOJ report means a thing. They got the story they wanted – victimized innocent, unarmed teenager and racist, murderous cop. The issue is now closed.
That is why there was virtually no sympathy for the two cops who were shot there earlier this week. In too many people\’s minds, those officers were Darren Wilson and the shooter was Michael Brown. It was “justice”.
I wish I could say this will resolve well at some point, but I don\’t see how that can happen.
