Here is the start of Michael Muskal\’s and Samantha Masunaga\’s article published Tuesday in the Los Angeles Times:
Conservativeradio commentator Rush Limbaugh and others have blamed the currentmeasles outbreak on children illegally crossing the southern borderof the U.S.
“Childrensick, healthy, you name it – poor, ill-educated, just tens ofthousands of kids flooded the southern border all of last year,”he said. “They were never examined before they got here. Theywere never examined after they got here and quarantined if they had adisease. They were just sent out across the country. Many of them hadmeasles.”
Whilethere are many serious diseases that have moved north to the UnitedStates from Mexico and Central America, measles is not one of them.
Whew, do I feel better about illegal immigration. It is not responsible for the current measles outbreak. Only the “many serious diseases that have moved north to the United States from Mexico and Central America.”
Knowing that Rush Limbaugh was wrong about measles, but that his overall point about illegals exporting diseases to the USA was dead on target, makes me breathe so much easier….oh, wait
If this isn\’t one for the “small consolation” department, what is?
