Today’s quote comes to us from former secret service agent and congressional candidate/current Fox News Channel contributor, Dan Bongino.
Mr. Bongino was not especially taken with Nancy Pelosi’s grandiosely obtuse segment on Fox’s Sunday Morning show, as she preened for the audience in a kitchen that even upper middle class people only dream about, while pontificating on why small businesses and their employees would just have to tough it out and wait to open their businesses/go back to work.
Bongino’s comment:
“Let me enlighten you, Nancy, because you seem to be living in an insulated $25,000 freezer ice cream bubble and you don’t get it. Here it is plain and simple: People have to feed their families. These are smart Americans who are intelligent. They understand there’s a risk. They live with risk every day.
“If you need to understand that, Nancy, go talk to a construction worker on a construction site down the block that is living with multimillion-dollar equipment that could kill him in a minute. If you tell him or her on that site, ‘You’re going to need to wear a mask. There are precautions. You may have to wear some kind of hand protection, wash our hands often and we may have to distance, but you will be able to go to work and feed your kids.’ I promise you the entrepreneurial brave American citizens will figure it the hell out. Get out of your bubble. People have to feed their kids. That is what’s going on right now.”
Do I fully agree with Mr. Bongino? No I do not; there are very good reasons for the current lock-down.
Do I agree that there has to come a point where we ease back toward normalcy, because the alternative is worse than the risk of additional COVID-19 victims? Yes I do. The issue is when; i.e. whether it is now or in the very near future.
Every year, tens of millions of people contract the flu, hundreds of thousands are hospitalized for it and tens of thousands die from it. We don’t close down the country during the flu season, do we?
The bottom line is that there has to be a balance here. And whether you agree or disagree with Mr. Bongino’s assessment of what that balance is, his observations about the terminally obtuse, elitist – not to mention arrogant – nancy pelosi are right on target…
…which is why Dan Bongino wins today’s Quote Of The Day honors.
