Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer – having scored her political points by threatening doctors who prescribed chloroquine treatment for COVID-19 victims, has now done a U-turn and not only is no longer making such threats but proactively asking for it to be used.
(No specific action was threatened, of course, just the threat of an investigation: enough to score anti-Trump points in her party by effectively holding up potentially life-saving treatment for several days).
From Lee DeVito’s article for the Detroit Metro News:
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer drew fire from some on the right after the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) sent a letter last week threatening “administrative action” against doctors who prescribed two experimental drugs that could potentially help coronavirus patients.
The Whitmer administration has since removed the language threatening doctors from the letter and is now asking the federal government to send shipments of the drugs, Bridge magazine reports. The Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency authorization for the antimalarial drugs hydroxychloroquine sulfate and chloroquine phosphate on Saturday.
(NOTE: I’d post this news from a more recognizable source, but – what a strange turn of events – almost no mainstream media are bothering to report it.)
So the sum total of Governor Whitmore’s pathetic performance – which was criticized by a lot more people than “some on the right”, Mr. DeVito – was to withhold significant, potentially life-saving, treatment from people in Michigan for days.
Don’t expect Nancy Pelosi to talk about a Democrat Governor fiddling around while people died, or Chuck Todd asking if she has blood on her hands, though. Wrong party.
Now, when does Nevada’s Democrat Governor, Steve Sisolak, do a similar reversal and give his state’s citizens a chance to get a perfectly safe, fully tested pharmaceutical that might lessen the severity of COVID-19 and maybe even save their lives?
