It\’s always nice to see the President of the United States taking our European allies seriously.
Which is why I congratulate Barack Obama for naming Colleen Bradley Bell as our new Ambassador to Hungary.
Ms. Bell has no diplomatic experience. And, during the confirmation hearing, could not answer simple questions about what she would do differently than the Ambassador she was replacing.
But that is unfair. Maybe she has qualifications in other areas that make her the ideal candidate for this post. So let\’s not forget that she has been a TV producer for The Bold & The Beautiful soap opera.
That, and she raised a bunch of money for….Barack Obama, the President who appointed her.
Look, the appointment of a ridiculously under-qualified person as Ambassador is nothing new. It certainly has happened before. But it is happening more in the Obama administration than any other in history. According to Andrea Mitchell (who ain\’t exactly an Obama enemy), over 40% of all his selections are “political” (i.e. payback).
I wonder who\’s next. Did Charlie Sheen do any bundling for Mr. Obama? How about Sponge Bob Square Pants?
