Today\’s Paragraph Of The Day honors go to Ed Morrissey, of hotair.com – who is an ongoing source of intelligent, thoughtful commentary on just about every other day as well.
Mr. Morrissey\’s latest blog cites part of a Friday document-dump by the Department of Health and Human Resources (HHS), in which it floats this brilliant idea:
“Undercurrent rules, consumers who do not take action during the openenrollment window are re-enrolled in the same plan they were in theprevious year, even if that plan experienced significant premiumincreases.
“Weare considering alternative options for re-enrollment, under whichconsumers who take no action might be defaulted into a lower-costplan rather than their current plan.”
Translation: if your plan\’s premium goes way up, you don\’t have to do a thing. We\’ll just “default” you into a “lower-lost plan”. Of course, you won\’t have the same coverage. You may not have the same doctors. And your deductible is going to go up – maybe way, way up.
But, what the hey, it is going to cost less. So everything is just fine….unless you get sick and actually need the insurance you\’re paying for. Which is exactly what you might say about not having any insurance at all.
How does Ed see this? Here\’s your answer:
TheObamaCare sales pitch has really progressed, has it not? We startedat Ifyou like your plan, you can keep your plan, whichPolitifact belatedly called the Lie of the Year once ObamaCare rolledout in 2013. After that, the White House line was Ifyou liked your plan, it’s because you were too stupid to knowwhat\’s good for you, but you\’ll like what you can pick now. Finally, we\’ve arrived at You\’restill too stupid to choose your own plan, so you\’ll like what wetellyou to like.
Absolutely correct. And richly deserving of Paragraph Of The Day honors.
As for ObamaCare? It is no different now than it always has been. An unworkable monstrosity, based on an impossible model, that either must be gutted and rebuilt (my preference), or repealed altogether.
The sooner the better.
