Today\’s Paragraph Of The Day comes to us from Ian Tuttle, whose article at nationalreview.com discusses how ObamaCare co-author Jonathan Gruber, and others among the left wing elite, think of themselves as both intellectually and morally superior to the rest of us who, they are convinced, reside in downtown Hoplelesslyinferiorville.
Tuttle believes that Gruber\’s insulting “the stupidity of the American voter” kiss-off does not mean we lesser beings are ignorant of facts, it means we are morally deficient. Let me show you how he frames it:
…The “stupidityof the American voter,” of which he is obviously disdainful, is notan ignorance of facts. If Obamacare proponents had believed that wasthe case, they would simply have sought to explain the legislation, trusting that more information would be persuasive. The obfuscationin which they engaged would not have been necessary.
No,Obamacare proponents were certain that Americans could not bepersuaded, no matter how much information they absorbed. The voterswere incapable of recognizing that Obamacare was in their own bestinterests – or, to put it another way, they were (and remain)morally deficient, a failing impervious to reasoned argument. Theirstupidity was a sin, against themselves and each other. Gruber andcompany were the messiahs they did not know they needed.
I don\’t agree with Mr. Tuttle. I believe that, when it comes to ObamaCare (among other issues), Gruber and his counterparts do not separate their disdain for our intelligence from their disdain for our morality. I believe they are both 100% in the mix.
But Tuttle wins Paragraph Of The Day honors because his article caused me to stop and think a little more about what Jonathan Gruber said…even though I eventually wound up with the same conclusion – that he is an elitist male member (think of a five letter word starting with p) who thinks an Ivy League pedigree puts himself above the rest of us.
