Virtually all the votes are now counted. And the Associated Press (among others) is reporting that Republican Dan Sullivan has unseated Democrat Mark Begich and will be Alaska\’s new U. S. Senator.
Begich refuses to concede, apparently clinging to a minuscule possibility that there are enough absentee ballots left to count so that, if virtually everyone one of them goes his way (which won\’t come close to happening) he can still win.
Uh………..nope.
This means the Senate, which was 55 Democrats (54 plus one independent who caucuses with Democrats) to 45 Republicans will now be 53 Republicans to 46 (45 plus the one independent), Louisiana\’s contest between Mary Landrieu and Bill Cassidy still to be decided.
You might say the situation has changed a tad.
