We\’ve done blogs like this before, when an actor or actress* makes a comment so imbecilic that someone has to say something.
And actress Ellen Barkin, who considers herself a crusader for unconditional abortion rights, has given us a reason to do it today.
This, via twitter (why do they always seem to tweet things like this) is what Ms. Barkin has to say about when there is a live child:
“Newsflash…a fetus cannot talk. It is not aperson. Not even a baby, not even an infant. Nope. Sorry.”
Is that now the criterion for whether there is or is not a human being? The ability to talk?
Just curious, Ellen: Are grownups who can\’t talk people?
Some people are born blind. Does that disqualify them for personhood too?
How about those Down syndrome children, Ellen? They will never talk the way you do. Does that make them partially human?
Somewhere in hell, goebbels and mengele are high-fiving each other over your comment.
Dear Ms. Barkin: can I ask a favor of you? Can you just shut up and act?
Please?

*Some people – probably including Ellen Barkin, I\’m guessing – think it is an insult to use the term “actress”, for women who act, instead of just calling everyone “actor”. I\’m not buying it. There is nothing secondary about the term to me. All it does is show gender – i.e. an actor is a male and an actress is a female – without in any way indicating one is more or less significant than the other. I feel the same way about waiters and waitresses.
