Harvard University: not what you\’d call a bastion of Republican support.
In 2010, its Institute Of Politics (IOP) conducted a study of “millennials” (18 – 29 year olds), asked which party they would be voting for. Among “definite” voters, Democrats were the big winners, by 55% – 43%.
Based on many other studies of this age group, it was not a surprise at all.
But this is: Harvard\’s IOP replicated the study this year and has released its findings this morning. The result? 51% Republican to 47% Democrat: a 12% move in favor of Republicans.
It also shows Barack Obama\’s approval level at 42% vs. 56% disapprove – and that his support among Hispanic 18-29 in particular has dropped like a rock – from 60% just this April to 49% (I\’m guessing a lot of this is because he fudged on his promise of amnesty, and they don\’t trust that he will do it after the election – but, regardless, it means Latino voters, as I call them, are going to be less enthusiastic about voting for Democrats this year).
If those data were reversed, it would be lead-story material on the national news shows tonight. You can bet on it.
But because these findings heavily favor Republicans, not Democrats, I consider it a virtual given that coverage will be minimal or non-existent.
