ALISON LUNDRGRAN NUNN?

Remember when Democrats were licking their lips over the possibility, even likelihood, that Alison Lundergran Grimes would overhaul Mitch McConnell and chalk up a senate win for them in Kentucky?

Unfortunately for them, Ms. Grimes turned out not to be as strong a candidate as they thought she was.  But her chances were good enough that the DSCC still continued pumping money into the Grimes campaign – until last week when she clumsily, ridiculously ducked a reporter\’s simple question:  “Did you vote for Barack Obama?”.

The reason Mr. Grimes ducked that question is pretty obvious:  Barack Obama is intensely disliked in Kentucky, and to admit she voted for him might be projected to an admission that, if elected, Grimes would support his policies – especially regarding coal – an issue she already was under the gun for, courtesy of Project Veritas.

Grimes apparently reasoned (if the word “reason” enters into this thought) that, if she did not admit she voted for President Obama, Kentuckians would think “well, maybe she didn\’t; maybe she voted for Romney” and the Obama issue would go away.

In reality, this was so ridiculous – and so insulting to the intelligence of Kentuckians – that even left-wing venues which want McConnell gone were laughing at her.

For the DSCC, that was the straw that broke the donkey\’s back.  Days later, it pulled the plug on her campaign funds, because they would be better used in races Democrats still had a realistic chance of winning.

Which brings us to Michelle Nunn, the Democrat senate candidate in Georgia.

Ms. Nunn is a very good candidate.  She not only has a great name in Georgia politics (her father, Sam, was a senator from Georgia who was well respected by both parties) but is a highly accomplished person in her own right.  And, until yesterday, she was running a very good campaign – good enough so that the polls had her either even with, or slightly ahead of, Republican opponent David Perdue.

But yesterday may have changed things.

In an amazing display of not learning from someone else\’s disaster, Ms. Nunn did the same thing that Ms. Grimes did.

An opposition tracker (someone hired by a candidate\’s opponent to follow him/her on the campaign trail and pick up any material that could be used against that candidate), asked “Ms. Nunn, did you vote for President Obama in 2008 and 2012?”

Nunn\’s answer?  NO answer.  She ignored the question and kept walking – while a supporter told the tracker “Would you just leave her alone”, as if he asked something nasty or offensive.

Here, see for yourself:

FYI:  President Obama\’s approval ratings in Georgia are as much down the tubes as they are in Kentucky.  And Georgians, I assume, are just as turned off by having their intelligence insulted as Kentuckians are.

Now: how fast do you think David Perdue will be using the above footage in his advertising?

If he\’s smart, that advertising has already been created.  And if he uses it well (i.e. he effectively brings home the premise that,  if Ms. Nunn becomes a senator, she will be voting for the Obama agenda), it has the potential to push Mr. Perdue over the finish line.

In his great folk song “Where Have All The Flowers Gone”, Pete Seeger laments…”Oh when will they ever learn?  When will they ever learn?”

Evidently, though for very different reasons, he could have been singing those lyrics about Michelle Nunn.
