My wife and I will be driving to Brooklyn this morning for what promises to be a joyous family occasion.
But not everyone in Brooklyn is joyous today.
Excerpted from Matt McNulty\’s article for the New York Post:
Ateen who had recently returned home to Brooklyn following a trip toSudan was rushed to the hospital with Ebola-like symptoms on Fridaynight, authorities said.
Theteen was rushed to nearby Brookdale Hospital just before 7:30 p.m.,when he was isolated and quarantined by hospital staff as doctorsbegan tests to determine whether the teen has Ebola or not.
Sourcestold The Post the boy may have lied on a sheet all travelers arerequired to fill out following trips to infected regions.
Sound familiar? Someone thinks he might have ebola, so he lies to get into the USA (in this case back to the USA)….and, by so doing, comes in contact with an unknown number of other people in the airport, the plane, the transportation back home, then friends and family.
Maybe this young man (he is 14 years old) has ebola. Maybe he does not. But if he does not, we have been the beneficiary of nothing more than dumb luck. And we still don\’t know who else has the virus and either is coming here or has already arrived.
We are playing with fire here. And that fire is burning all too brightly.
I don\’t have the words to describe how fearful I am that this deadly virus, which we are wholly unprepared to deal with, and have no effective strategy to isolate, will spread in the USA.
