If the title of this blog were referring to al-qaeda, or ISIS, we\’d all know the answer is “yes”, and be appropriately outraged by it.
But what if it were referring to the Center for Disease Control (CDC)? Or to a hospital in Delaware? Would you even be able to come close to the appropriate level of outrage?
Read the following article from CBS News\’ Philadelphia affiliate (it\’s too short to excerpt) and see why I raise this seemingly impossible, but all too valid, question:
DOVER, Del. (CBS) – Officials at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Delaware say a child was brought to their emergency department over the weekend because of possible symptoms of Ebola virus.
Officials say the child, who is from Liberia, was brought in on Saturday and was given an assessment from the staff following the CDC guidelines for identifying suspected cases of Ebola.
It was determined by the CDC the likelihood the child has Ebola was low, so the CDC decided not to test the child after they were notified.
Officials say the child will continue to be observed in the hospital until it is determined they can be released
Are these people crazy?
-A child from Liberia – ground zero for the ebola outbreak – was brought to the hospital with possible symptoms of the virus.
-The CDC determined not that the child was ebola-free, but that “the likelihood the child has Ebola was low” – whatever that means.
-So neither the CDC nor the hospital is doing a thing. No testing of the child – or, it seems implicit, anyone he/she has come in contact with in the past week or two – and no treatment. Just keep him/her around to see if anything happens.
-And if the child does have ebola…and therefore has put all those people at similar risk?????? Not a word about that.
Am I missing something, or is the CDC, and Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, giving ebola a free shot at everyone this child has come in contact with, including its own patients and staff?
Asking again: are these people crazy?
