The agony must have been excruciating.
Andrea Mitchell, as strong an Obama supporter as there is on mainstream media (ok, ok, she\’s in a tie with dozens of others, but a strong supporter anyway) could not fake a smiley-face about the economic news that had just come out – even as a good many of the others seemed just fine with doing so.
Here is what Ms. Mitchell had to say on yesterday\’s Meet The Press show, after Republican National Committee Chairperson Reince Priebus explained why the “good” economic news was not so good at all:
“Youknow, I\’m not echoing Reince Priebus, because he is obviouslypartisan, and that\’s his job. But if youlook at The Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Financial times, all the reporting on the jobs data for Friday reportedthat participation rate is at historic lows, decades lows.Fifty-nine percent are involved in the labor force. That\’sjust not a sustainable recovery. We have two Americas”
Uh, Andrea? Actually you are echoing Reince Priebus. Not because he is obviously partisan and that is his job (both true), but because, partisan or not, what he is saying is entirely factual.
I can only imagine the pain it caused you agree with him.
How I wish that other media people – especially among the reflexively Obama-supporting crowd (and that is one bodaciously big crowd) – displayed a similar level of honesty.
