THE NEW CNN/ORC POLL:

You\’ve got to hand it to CNN.  It works hard to protect Democrats.

A new CNN/ORC poll was released today. Its findings are absolutely devastating to Democrats.  So what headline does CNN put up?

CNN/ORC poll: Most think Congress is worst in their lifetime

That\’s it? That\’s the big-time information of this poll?

Uh…..no.

Let me give you some of the poll data which CNN has deemed not headline material:

-In the generic ballot question – ie. which party study respondents would vote for in their congressional district – Republicans lead 49% to 45%. Usually Republicans, even in winning years, are behind in this measure.

-When asked their enthusiasm levels, 37% of Republicans say they are enthusiastic to vote this year (i.e. more likely to actually show up at a polling place). Democrats are at 28%.

-When independents – the “swing” voters who usually determine which party wins – are separated out, Republicans hold a huge 15% advantage over Democrats.

-And when President Obama\’s impact on the election is gauged, 39% say they would support a candidate backed by Mr. Obama, compared to 52% saying they would support a candidate who opposes him.

If what you just read is accurate, it isn\’t a bad poll for Democrats.  It isn\’t even an awful poll for Democrats.  It is borderline cataclysmic.  If those data hold true on election day, Republicans will win a senate majority with room to spare, and increase their already-substantial majority in the house.

So what is CNN\’s headline?  That people don\’t like congress?  Holy excrement.

Oh, and the article doesn\’t provide a link to the poll itself, which would enable you to see the data for yourself rather than be restricted to CNN\’s “analysis”.

If that isn\’t working hard on behalf of Democrats, tell me what is.
