IDENTITY POLITICS INSANITY (CONT.)

Did you know that Asian Americans are beneficiaries of White Privilege?

Oh, you didn’t know that?  You thought that Asian Americans are not White.  And that Asian Americans having to score higher on their SATs than other minorities to get into major universities — in some schools, hundreds of points higher – made them victims, not victors?

Well, think again.  The New York City Department of Education has come to save the day and properly re-educate you on what’s really going on.

Excerpted from Selim Algar’s article for the New York Post:

A city DOE-sponsored panel designed to combat racism told parents that Asian-American students “benefit from white supremacy” and “proximity to white privilege,” an outraged mom told The Post.

The comments drew backlash from some parents and Asian activists, but not the Department of Education, which neither denied nor denounced them.

The panel was helmed by the Center for Racial Justice in Education, a group being paid about $400,000 by the DOE, led by Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza, to conduct near-weekly training sessions throughout the city to address what it believes is rampant racism infecting schools.

Two CRJE presenters at the February meeting — which included about 30 District 3 parents from the Upper West Side and Harlem in Manhattan — outlined a racial-advantage hierarchy, with African-Americans at the bottom and whites at the top, according to attendee Ingrid Flinn.

Flinn, who has an adopted Asian child, noted that Asians were never mentioned in the presentation and said that she felt compelled to ask about their status.

The presenters told the room that Asians were on the upper rungs, enough in “proximity to white privilege” to “benefit from white supremacy,” Flinn recalled.

Flinn said it suggested Asians didn’t need to be separately acknowledged in the hierarchy.

Wai Wah Chin of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance of Greater New York fumed, “This is racist and divisive.”

Can someone explain to me what this is supposed to mean?  Are Asian Americans supposed to be almost White, so some of that White privilege (which, we keep being told, is a shameful blight on all White people) somehow is transferred to them?

This is flat-out insanity.

And you don’t have to pay $400,000 for insanity.  There’s plenty of it to go around for free.

I have an idea.  How about the New York City Department of Education spending its money on trying to improve children’s education?  Trying to separate children of every color and ethnicity who want to learn, from children who are disruptive and/or violent in classrooms, thus making learning impossible?  And not worrying about what percentage of them are this color or that ethnicity.

New York City’s public school system is, in many parts of the city, an educational sewer.  A dead end that sends children through without proficiency in the basic needs, such as math and english, that would enable them to lead productive lives.

Maybe, just maybe, that’s a little more important then pissing away almost a half million dollars to tell Asian Americans how lucky they are to be almost White.

  • But, we all know:
    The ISSUE is . N O T “The Issue”
    The ISSUE is . P O W E R
The dozens of billions spent on education is intended to keep the insiders in power. Sorry, Asians, Whites — — you are not insiders.

  • As a society we have pushed tolerance so far we now tolerate things that are intolerable.
The only racism left in this country is ‘Personal Racism’. You can’t stop it in a free society, people have the right to believe what they want. Believing something wrong or stupid can only be stopped by dialogue unless you want to go down the totalitarian road to locking people up for thought crimes. I feel sorry for the people that live life under the mistaken belief that we are a racist society. It is truly sad.

    • I would add to the above comment that we have another kind of racism, the racism of people claiming to fight racism. They don’t mean to be racist they’re just ignorant. As Ken has said so many times, you can’t get rid of racism by creating more racism. Or something like that.
