MAKING FORD’S SEXUAL ASSAULT IRRELEVANT

As you might imagine, there is a great deal of strategy being tried by both sides during this amazing day of testimony.

But the Republican strategy of making christine blasey ford’s claim of sexual assault irrelevant may well be the most significant – and, ultimately, the most meaningful to his confirmation vote.

How is it possible for them to have done this?

Very simply, by proclaiming they believe ford as much as the Democrats and their hard-left cohorts do, fully commiserating with her pain and anguish…but stating that the haziness of her memory about every specific related to the assault – when, where, how she got there, how she got home, etc.,  means it is reasonable to believe that she is also hazy on who attacked her…

…and then solidifying this point by enumerating what a stellar life Judge Kavanaugh has had, how deferential he has been to women throughout his professional career, and that, regarding the incident in question, not one of the people she claims was at that party corroborates even one word of what she is claiming Kavanaugh did to her.

In short “We understand you lived through a terrible event, we sincerely grieve for your experience (i.e. we don’t challenge that you are a victim, not even 1%) but it is clear, based on your lack of memory and the fact that Brett Kavanaugh’s entire career flies in the face of such behavior, that you are mistaken about Brett Kavanaugh being the person who did it to you.”

By not challenging christine blasey ford on any facet of the sexual assault, the only issue left is whether she is hazy on who did it to her.

That makes the sexual assault itself irrelevant to the confirmation process.

And, of obviously huge importance, it gives potentially shaky Republicans, like Susan Collins, Linda Murkowski and Jeff Flake, a solid reason to vote in favor of Kavanaugh — which, I suspect none of them would have done if Republicans had challenged ford’s being a victim.
