Now that the unemployment rate is at 3.9% – an 18 year low, which means that we have the enviable problem of needing to find workers instead of workers needing to find jobs….
….isn’t it time to revamp the immigration laws, by creating a system where people from other countries, once vetted, will be given work permits….with a pass to permanent residence and citizenship for those who use those permits for some determined length of time.
I know this currently exists in some form. But I’m talking about a significantly larger number of such permits being issued.
This would go some distance toward solving our workforce problem (may we continue to have such a “problem” for years to come), make it more feasible – not to mention more worth their while – for workers to enter the country legally rather than jumping the border, and ensure that the people who do enter legally are assets to the country.
To me, that seems like a win for everyone…except people coming here as gang members, parts of drug cartels, or sponges who want to live on the back of taxpayers.
What do you think?

We still have over 90 million citizens without jobs. We have a ways to go before importing labor.
imo.
