Here are the first two paragraphs of today\’s lead editorial in the New York Times. That should be enough:
Thereis a scandal going on at the Internal Revenue Service, but it hasnothing to do with Lois Lerner or hermissing emails. House Republicans have not given up on theirnoisy crusade to tie Ms. Lerner to what they imagine to be widespreadpolitical corruption within the Obama administration, but all theyhave proved is that the I.R.S. is no better at backing up itscomputer files than mostother government agencies.
No,the real scandal is what Republicans did to cripple the agency whenvirtually no one was looking. Since the broad Tea Party-drivenspending cuts of 2010, the agency\’s budget has been cut by 14percent after inflation is considered, leading to sharply reducedstaff, less enforcement of the tax laws and poor taxpayer service.
Breathtaking.
In its first paragraph, the editorial board of the New York Times tells us that:
-the systematic targeting of 501(c)4 groups likely to oppose President Obama,
-overseen by a head of the IRS tax exempt division who pled the fifth when asked about her activities, was then put on administrative leave (also known as a paid vacation),
-but abruptly retired when emails surfaced making it plain the targeting of those groups was intentional,
-after which two years of her other emails, covering the period when this scandal was cooked up, magically went missing,
-along with the emails of 6 other IRS people under investigation,
-is no scandal at all.
That\’s right, sheeple. Nothing to see here. Move along, move along.
And if that weren\’t enough, the second paragraph tell us that the real scandal was “the broad, Tea Party-driven spending cuts of 2010”. In other words, this was the handiwork of a movement so new it barely had any organization, at a time when Democrats – not Republicans, but Democrats – controlled 60% of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
You want an idiotorial? There\’s an idiotorial. Written in the hope that you are an idiot, and will buy into its idiocy.
Don\’t.
