From Jonathan Cheng’s article for the Wall Street Journal:
North Korea said it conducted a sixth and significantly larger nuclear test Sunday, stepping up pressure on President Donald Trump in what is shaping up to be his biggest foreign policy crisis.
In a televised statement, North Korea described the underground explosion, which triggered a large earthquake, as a “perfect success in the test of a hydrogen bomb for an ICBM.” Pyongyang said “the creditability of the operation of the nuclear warhead is fully guaranteed.”
The test came just hours after leader Kim Jong Un showed off what he described as a hydrogen bomb capable of being mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile.
kim jung-un, apparently, is on the cusp of having operational nuclear weapons. And he has told us in so many words that he is going to use them on the United States.
That, presumably, why the article referenced above indicates this is shaping up to be President Trump’s biggest foreign policy crisis.
But is it? Why would that be? Is this some personal confrontation between President Trump and the deranged lunatic running North Korea?
If kim jung-un makes good on his ovet threat and fires a nuclear missile, is it going straight to Trump Towers and avoiding everything else?
We are looking at a WORLD crisis. This lunatic, given the capability, might fire one of these missiles at South Korea, or Japan, or any number of other places instead of or in addition to the United States.
Why is it the sole responsibility of Donald Trump to stop him?
Where are South Korea and Japan, kim’s closest/easiest targets?
Where is China – which accounts for 90% of North Korea’s international trade, and therefore is the one country that might have a shot at stopping this lunatic?
Where is the United Nations? This is a chance – an obligation – for it to actually accomplish something besides defecating on Israel.
Why does this fall exclusively on Donald Trump’s shoulders?
If no one else does do anything, President Trump will have to. Then the same people who have sat by and allowed things to get to this point will have the “fun” of telling him what he did wrong. Isn’t that wonderful?
A great many people think that Donald Trump is just about the last person who should be handling this situation. So why is everyone else ducking away and handing him the responsibility by default?
We are at a very dangerous crossroads. And it is about damn time that so-called “leaders” from around the world start thinking about what their responsibilities are.
