Boy did they get that donald sterling guy.
He was going to take the NBA to court and fight their demand that he sell the Los Angeles Clippers. But it will never happen.
Why? Because sterling has agreed to sell the Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steven Ballmer, an even richer White guy than he is, for a price in the neighborhood of $2 billion — almost four times more than any other team in NBA history.
And who is shut out? Every group comprised partly or mostly of Black people, who cannot – and, if they are sane, would not – pay this kind of money for the team.
So the bottom line is that:
– donald sterling is “punished” by making a humongous $1.5 billion dollar windfall over and above what his team probably is worth,
-he is getting it from a billionaire 20 times over, who doesn\’t care how much his latest toy costs,
-Black ownership is left at the starting gate…bridesmaids again,
-and the NBA does not have to be subjected to a court case in which the numerous incidents of racism and homophobia which can be found among NBA players and off-court personnel other than sterling (e.g. Larry Johnson saying he wants an all-Black/no Whites basketball league, Kobe Bryant\’s anti-gay slurs, etc. etc. etc.) would have been paraded in open court, to prove that sterling was, to say the least, not breaking any new ground.
Congratulations to the NBA. Boy did you guys show donald sterling. And how wonderful that your pristine virtue is unsullied by cross examination.
High fives all around…except for you Black guys and gals who thought you might be able to buy the team at a fair market price. Better luck next time (wink wink).
