On Friday, my wife and I, with another couple, went to see “The Zookeeper’s Wife”.
One of the “coming attraction” trailers was for “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” – Al Gore’s “documentary” on how correct he was 10 years ago, with his Oscar-Winning An Inconvenient Truth”.
This was less a trailer than it was an indoctrination – consisting of a ratatat recital of just how right Gore was then and how much closer we are to cataclysm now, because there are people who dare to question the unquestionable fact of climate change – with highly unflattering video of Donald Trump included, just in case anyone thought this was not political.

The one and only specific example cited by the trailer to “prove” Gore was correct is his prediction that sea levels would rise and there would be flooding of the 9/11 memorial. And, yes, there was flooding of the 9/11 memorial – during hurricane Sandy.
Uh…hurricane Sandy caused countless other flooding as well. It was a HURRICANE, you see. Not just another day in lower Manhattan. But this was supposed to prove some ongoing truth about the overall state of the world? Nope.
Arguably, the reason this obviously poor example was cited is because most of the other predictions Gore made in the original An Inconvenient Truth have not at all come true.
Here, compiled by charismanews.com (among other websites) is a concise review of key claims made by the original Gore spectacular and what actually did/did not happen:
1. Rising Sea Levels—inaccurate and misleading. Al was even discovered purchasing a beachfront mansion!
2. Increased Tornadoes—declining for decades.
3. New Ice Age in Europe—they’ve been spared; it never happened.
4. South Sahara Drying Up—completely untrue.
5. Massive Flooding in China and India—again, didn’t happen.
6. Melting Arctic—false—2015 represents the largest refreezing in years.
7. Polar Bear Extinction—actually they are increasing!
8. Temperature Increases Due to CO2—no significant rising for over 18 years
9. Katrina a Foreshadow of the Future—false—past 10 years, no F3 hurricanes; “longest drought ever!”
10. The Earth Would be in a “True Planetary Emergency” Within a Decade Unless Drastic Action Taken to Reduce Greenhouse Gasses—never happened.
But, yes, the 9/11 memorial did flood during a hurricane. So forget all the other, er, inconvenient truths, and pretend they don’t mean anything.
Personally, I am all for anything that will improve the earth’s environment. We switched from oil to renewable gas. We have had one form or another of solar power at our house for almost 40 years (first solar hot water, now our entire electric system).
But our interest is in reality. Not scare tactics that make Al Gore even richer than he already is.
When global warming (that’s what they call it when the temperature is unusually high) or climate change (that’s what they call it when the temperature is not) is truly proven to be induced by humankind, rather than humankind causing just a tiny, virtually inconsequential component of it, let me know.
