SIX OF ONE, HALF THE AGE OF ANOTHER

Nancy Pelosi has agreed to wait until November 30, before there is a vote to determine whether she will remain the minority leader of the house, where she has served since the Coolidge administration….well, OK, I’m exaggerating; it just seems that long.

It turns out she is being challenged by Tim Ryan of Ohio, who largely shares her doctrinaire leftward positions…but, at 43 years of age, is young enough to be the 76 year old Ms. Pelosi’s son.  By plenty. son.

I have no doubt that Nancy Pelosi, like her or not, is a vibrant, active woman who seems to have complete physical and mental acuity.  I’m very happy for her and hope this continues for many more years.

But if ever a political party were in need of new blood, younger blood, this is the time.  And Tim Ryan gives Democrats the younger blood they so desperately needed without skipping a beat in the left wing politics it seems determined to continue with, even after losing every part of government to Republicans.

If I were a Democrat, I would thank Nancy Pelosi for her service as a leader, beg her to be an elder/mentor for who comes after her, and put Tim Ryan in as minority leader.

I wonder if the party, in its current state, is capable of doing so.
