It never fails. A few days before a presidential election one Democrat or another makes an outlandish, unsupportable claim against the Republican candidate that is supposed to enrage Blacks enough so that they will go to the polls en masse and vote Democrat.
Illustratively, in 1988 we had the Willie Horton ad, which Democrats used against George Bush (though Horton was first invoked by Democrat Al Gore). In 2000 we had was the James Byrd ad accusing the younger George Bush of being easy on the three men who tied Byrd to their truck and tore him to shreds by driving it through terrain (though two of them were sentenced to death and the third to life without parole).
And this year is no exception – as can be seen by President Obama’s comments during a Wednesday rally in Chapel Hill, North Carolina:
President Barack Obama wants people in North Carolina to vote for Hillary Clinton, so he’s warning them that Donald Trump would tolerate the support of the Klu Klux Klan if he’s elected president.
“If you accept the support of Klan sympathizers — the Klan — and hesitate when asked about that support, then you’ll tolerate that support when you’re in office,” he said.
Obama added that Trump would “disrespect” the Constitution as president, citing the Republican nominee’s vow to put Hillary Clinton in jail.

Donald Trump issued a crystal clear disavowal Thursday of former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke after stumbling last weekend over a question about the hate group leader on CNN.
Then we have this, just yesterday, from Fox News-Boston:
The Ku Klux Klan praised Donald Trump’s message of making America great again in a full-page piece on its official newspaper, prompting the Republican presidential nominee’s campaign to issue a sharp rebuke of the paper.
In a statement issued by Trump’s campaign, the GOP presidential nominee denounced the article and the tacit support of the Klan.
“This publication is repulsive and their views do not represent the tens of millions of Americans who are uniting behind our campaign,” the statement said.
Does that look like Donald Trump is tolerant of the ku klux klan to you?
Speaking bluntly, the reason President Obama lies to us this way is that – he hopes – there are enough people who are ignorant of Trump’s overt rejection of the klan to believe he must have said he’s ok with it.
Which he did not – not even when he stumbled on the “disavowal” question referred to in the CNN quote.
At no time, ever, did Donald Trump say he tolerated david duke or the ku klux klan. You can search to find that “quote” until your eyeballs fall out and you won’t, because it isn’t there.
These are the politics of desperation. This is the kind of thing someone says when – as Mr. Obama made clear in the same speech – there are serious worries about the outcome of the election.
Two weeks ago, Hillary Clinton was coasting to victory, and expecting to take it easy until election day while the campaign money she wasn’t going to have to spend would be used down-ticket to win the senate, and maybe even the house.
Now? Forget the house, and forget any money going to those senate races. She’s in a real fight for the presidency….one that it is not at all clear she will win.
What a pity it would be if the President of the United States lying about the klan was what put her over the top.
This man [Obama] has no shame whatsoever. He has to be the most disgusting President ever.
It is Hillary who had glowing things to say about Robert Byrd a Senator and head of the klan, not Trump.
The sad part is as we have already seen in so many videos, many people not just Blacks believe what Obama said is true. It infuriates me to no end when an outright lie is believed to be the truth.
