Today’s quote comes to us from ESPN reporter Israel Gutierrez.
During a discussion of the fact that a Washington Post poll shows 90% of Native Americans are not bothered by the name “Washington Redskins”, this is what Mr. Gutierrez had to say:
“It could just be that others don’t know the history of it and therefore aren’t offended. There’s so much history there. Maybe even Native Americans don’t know the history.”
Well, there you go. The poll doesn’t count because maybe Native Americans are just too ignorant to know they’re being insulted. Or, put another way, Israel Gutierrez thinks 90% of Native Americans are mindless dumbasses.
Suppose someone suggested to Mr. Gutierrez that 90% of Latinos are ignorant. About anything at all, let alone an insult. Do you think he would be offended? Do you think he would have some pretty choice words to say about that person?
If so, how do you figure Native Americans feel about his characterization of them…and the implicit indication that he thinks he is smarter/more knowledgeable than they are?
I award Israel Gutierrez Quote Of The Day “honors”, for showing us that he is every bit as ignorant and dumbass as he blanket-accuses Native Americans of being.
Get real, Mr. Gutierrez.
